This weekend I finally planted all my vegetables, and I’m so excited to have a small vegetable garden once again. Ever since we moved to this house in 2007, I’ve had a greenhouse and a large vegetable garden in the back. I really enjoy gardening with Bella and on nice days sitting or working while looking out over it. However, when I was pregnant with Noah, I decided to sell my green house to a very nice woman who was going to use it for growing orchids. Shortly after that we removed the vegetable garden to build a jungle gym for Bella. I believe my thinking was that with two children I never would have time to garden again. Silly me. A lesson learned: never make a decision based on hormones
Of course I changed my mind and, of course, now I have plenty of time to garden. Recently, our friend built me a small garden on the side of our house, and Noah loves to spend time with me working in it. I just bought beautiful plants from a vendor at the Hillcrest farmers market. Today I planted beets, garlic, brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, cilantro, mint, oregano, broccoli and fava beans. I also planted Swiss chard in planter boxes, potatoes in buckets, and rhubarb in some random places in the garden. It felt so good to be digging in soil again and getting dirty, and Bella enjoyed it as much as ever, too.
