Review and Giveaway– Madeline Island Candles

By Amanda Wilkes:

One of my favorite things is to curl up on the couch, read a good book or watch the most recent Netflix with a glass of wine while a candle flickers beside me. There is something so cozy and romantic about the way a candle can illuminate a room in such a subtle way and fill it with the perfect amount of fragrance. However, the truth is that I am quite particular about my candles. They must have a bold scent that isn’t too overpowering and they also need to last a long time. It’s not a lot to ask for, but I’ve had a hard time finding them.

Thankfully, my friend recently told me about Madeline Island Candles and insisted that I give them a try. I did my researchmadeline soy candles and found that they are a locally owned and operated company located in Lake Superior, Wisconsin. The company was designed to improve the local economy and provide part-time employment to island residents. What I love most is that the candle makers use the island as inspiration for their unique scents and color variations.

After everything I read, I ordered two candles and I am absolutely in LOVE with them.

Not only do they have unique, scents that are the perfect balance of strong and subtle, but they also are slow burning, which makes them last and last. My favorite thing about these candles is that they are friendly to the planet. Right on their adorably designed labels, they state that their candles are made from 100% soy wax, have cotton wicks and are made from renewable and domestically grown soy. Even those adorable labels are made from 30% recycled materials. I was also pleased to find out that all of their candles are made in the U.S.A. and support U.S. farmers. Upon receiving these candles, I found a handwritten note addressed to me, thanking me for my business. Sometimes, it’s the little things!

You may ask, why soy candles? There are many reasons to choose soy candles over typical paraffin. I believe the most important reason is that soy candles burn cleaner and produce as much as 90% less soot than paraffin, therefore reducing the amount of indoor air pollution (from burning candles). The second reason soy is better is that it’s a sustainable and renewable resource. Lastly, I prefer soy candles because they burn longer. They may be more expensive than paraffin candles, but they last a whole lot longer, which pays off in the end.

The Madeline Island Candles website is easy to use and is the best place to find the perfectly scented candle for yourself or someone special. I ordered the “Oakmoss and Amber” and “Pumpkin Spice” scents. With autumn well on its way, I imagined that these two fragrances would welcome the season perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with my choices. I also loved how quickly the product shipped: I began enjoying my candles only a few days after I placed my order. Apparently, I am not the only one who is enjoying my Madeline Island Candles because they have been chosen as a finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards. I can’t wait to try all their scents!

This week you can also be the lucky owner of a Madeline Island Candle!
