Honey BBQ Sauce

I guess by living in sunny San Diego it might feel wrong to say it’s BBQ season since most people might thinks it’s all year around here. However, with the hot and sunny weather I can say that for Sunny Yoga Kitchen it’s BBQ time now and we enjoy spending as much time outdoors as possible.

I’ve been using store bought Annie’s BBQ sauce but a friend convinced me to make my own. We use this sauce on everything such as tofu steaks, Portobello mushrooms and seitan. I found the recipe on The Veggie Table but just changed a tiny bit.

2 tbsp. olive oil

1 cup yellow onion, diced
4 tbsp. ketchup
3 tbsp. Dijon mustard
2 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. honey
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp. molasses
¼ cup balsamic vinegar
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients and cook, stirring frequently, for 30 minutes. et sauce cool and then strain sauce. The flavors will keep develop while kept in fridge.
