Fun Ideas for a Mom on Bed Rest

By Fredrica Syren

Today, I’m finishing my 5th week on bed rest. Clearly it’s working because the baby is still happily cooking and shows no plans to enter this world early any more. Phew!!! It’s super hard to just lie here; after this many weeks, I’m bored out of my mind and absolutely cannot watch any more TV or movies, and I already have read a ton of books. I keep reminding myself that I’m doing this for the health of my baby, so it will be worth it at the end. Of course it does not change the fact that I’m bored.

I posted on Facebook last week, asking for suggestions for entertaining myself during the remaining time in bed. Thank you so much, everyone who gave me suggestions. Here is the list of things that I will try:

· Rest (I’m for sure getting more rest then I ever have gotten before, so — done!)

· Learn how to knit a baby hat or baby blanket
· Catch up on making family photo albums
· Do crossword puzzles
· Get a nifty knitter (training wheels for beginner knitters)
· Cross stitch
· Puzzles
· Crochet (started this week)
· Organize photos!
All are great ideas and I already have started working through the list.
Tomorrow I will be 36 weeks pregnant and feeling very uncomfortable as expected. Sleep is very up and down and mostly because of all the frequent bathroom visits in the middle of the night. I still receive acupuncture treatment to keep healthy. Baby is estimated to be 6 pounded right now and is still moving around like crazy, although I can tell he’s running out of space. I hope he will hang in there to 39 weeks at least.
