The humane treatment of animals now has reached the fast food nation with the fast food giant Burger King’s latest announcement that it will use eggs and porkonly from cage-free chickens and pigs. This means, of course, that tens of thousands of animals will have better living conditions.
This proves that consumers have become more aware — even in the fast food business — and demand more humanely produced foods. This is a huge change because a couple of years ago this was not the case. Obviously, more demand means that more fast food restaurants will follow suit. Nothing will sell better for these restaurants than the ability to claim cage-free meat.
Now, if you think you can drive over to Burger King for an animal-humane feast today, you will be disappointed. They are promising 100% cage-free eggs and pork, but the timeline is 2017. Burger King is to be followed by Wendy’s and McDonald’s, which have also requested their pork supplier to go cage-free, but have done so without a timeline.
