BECOPotty, the Green Potty

By Fredrica Syren:

My son Noah is starting to potty train. These are exciting times, indeed, when my baby boy is growing up with big boy underwear and a potty of his own. If, like me, you are on a mission to reduce your carbon footprint, landfill contribution and plastic dependence, you know that once children come along, plastic seems to creep its way into your home. Especially when it comes to potty training, our options to be plastic-free are pretty slim. What’s a green family to do? When I heard of an eco-friendly potty, I knew I had to find it.

BecoPotty creates an eco-friendly potty from sustainably grown waste bamboo and other plant material. The potty itself is completely bio-potty-made-of-waste-plant-fibersgradable, so after years of use, you can compost it or plant it in your garden, where it will break down in about 2-3 years with no chemical residue or trash left behind. Basically, you can feed your new plant life with your child’s old potty while saving the environment from more landfill at the same time.

The potty is not only green but also comfy because it’s ergonomically designed, with a high back that offers extra support. A large splash guard helps keep potty training hygienic and it’s plenty high enough for boys, too. The potty does not have rubber feet underneath, so it tends to slide around a bit, but putting it on a rug helps. My boy is a big, tall little guy who is potty training late (almost 3), so the potty does seem a bit cramped for him now, but he does not seem to mind it.

I highly recommend the Beco potty to everyone, especially for eco-minded and green parents with both the child’s and environment’s best interests at heart!
