How to Prevent Air Pollution in Your Home

By Uma Campbell:

Mothers will do everything in their power to ensure that their children have a good quality of life. This includes making sure that they always have enough food to eat, clothes to wear, and a roof over their head. Yet, one of the most important determinants of a child’s well-being is something that many mothers tend to overlook; the quality of air in the home.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American spends 87% of their lives at home. This percentage is even higher amongst young children who cannot fend for themselves. Because of the fact that we spend so much time in our homes, it is important to make sure that the air quality in it is clean. It is even more important to understand this if you are a mother with young children in the home. This is because young children are at a higher risk of getting sick from air pollutants due to their weak immune systems.

If you are a mother with small children, and are trying to improve your children’s quality of life, you have come to the right post. In this article, we will be discussing three ways to prevent air pollution in your home to help improve your children’s quality of life.

Install Air Filters Throughout Your Home

Air filters do an excellent job of filtering out any pollutants that may be present in your homes air. Although installing air filters throughout your home is a good start, they unfortunately need to be maintained constantly. The reason why you need to be constantly maintaining your air filters is because they accumulate dust and many other unwanted particles over time. This can cause them to be less efficient and sometimes even break. That is why it is highly recommended that you only use eco-friendly, washable and reusable air filters. These types of air filters are easy to maintain, have a longer lifespan than traditional air filters, and are eco-friendly. In addition, they will also end up saving you money in the long run since they are reusable. Using these types of air filters is a great start in preventing air pollution in your home and reducing the likelihood of sickness

Only Use Eco-friendly Cleaning Products

Using eco-friendly cleaning products is another great way to keep air pollution at bay in your home. This is because non eco-friendly cleaning products emit additional toxic chemical pollutants into your air. These toxic chemicals can have negative long term effects on your health as well as immediate negative effects on a child’s health. That is why it is best to use eco-friendly cleaning products around your house. Some eco-friendly cleaningbrands to look out for the next time you go shopping are Seventh Generation, Ecos, Better Life, Puracy, and Mrs. Meyer’s. All of these brands are eco-friendly and just as efficient as the big name cleaning brands.

Clean Your Rugs and Carpets Regularly

Similarly to air filters, dust and other unwanted particles frequently get trapped deep inside the surfaces of rugs and carpets. Once the amount of unwanted particles outnumbers the spaces available on the carpet or rug, they begin to float into the air. That is why it so important to clean your rugs and carpets regularly.

If you are a mother with small children in your home, cleaning your rugs and carpets is even more important. This is because small children spend a lot of time on the ground and on the surfaces of rugs and carpets. This close proximity means that they are at higher risk of inhaling these unwanted particles, causing a child to develop allergies or get ill .

In summary, keeping the air quality in your home fresh and clean is very important, especially if you are the mother of small children. Small children have weak immune systems, and poor air quality in the home can have serious negative impacts on their health. Even though the importance of keeping the air quality in your home fresh and clean is obvious, many people still do not take it very seriously. Do not be one of those people. Follow these three tips mentioned in the article and start improving your quality of life, and your children’s quality of life now!
