Let your natural beauty show–natural make-up

By Amanda Wilkes:

Eighty percent of women wear makeup, but how many of us really know what we are wearing? It is shocking that we pay such little attention to the products we put on our faces yet focus so much time on preparing healthy meals, reading nutrition labels, buying organic products, and exercising to keep ourselves and our families healthy. Unfortunately, most of us never really have thought about how harmful the daily application of these cosmetics can be. Until now, I was like most women who go to the local drugstore to pick up a sale priced foundation, compact, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, and so on and so forth — without a thought in the world about the ingredients. I never actually considered that, by applying these items to my face, I was giving harmful toxins a direct line to my bloodstream. As they seep into the bloodstream, they spread throughout my body, the same body that I work so hard to maintain each day.

I realized that, whenever reading a nutrition label, my rule of thumb is that if I can’t pronounce what’s in it, I’m not putting it in my body. NOW that is also my rule of thumb for makeup and other beauty products. After going through my makeup, I was shocked to see what was in it: mercury, Bronopol, formaldehyde, mineral oil, petrolatum, Triethanolamine, sodium laureate sulfate, Quaternium-15, propylene glycol, talc, color additives, and fragrance. http://www.townsendletter.com/FebMar2006/envirohealth0206.htm. Then I was eager to research the direct effects of these chemicals: they inlude nausea, fatigue, dizziness, skin rashes, immune disfunction, kidney failure, liver failure, heart disease, cancer — and on and on. Even with all this disturbing information, it was very hard for me to imagine going “cold turkey” and not wearing makeup ever again, so I decided to research my options. Ladies, we are in luck! Thanks to organic and natural makeup companies, there now are products made from all natural ingredients that are not harmful to our bodies. I will admit that finding these all natural makeups at Target or other department stores is more difficult, but it is as easy as googling “Organic all-natural makeup,” or “Environmentally friendly makeup” to find your next purchase.

100% Pure- An all fruit and vegetable pigment inspired makeup line. http://www.100percentpure.com/Fruit-Pigmented-Cosmetics-s/12.htm?gclid=CKnnl8fp164CFSQZQgodmXKDcA

TrueNatural- Offering a wide variety of natural beauty supplies including, cosmetics, hair, anti-aging, and sun products all which are free of harmful ingredients. http://www.lovetruenatural.com/

AfterGlowCosmetics- A new kind of makeup combining minerals that are good for your skin but that are also infused with the age-defying properties of Certified Organic antioxidants like organic grape seed extract and organic pomegranate extract.

Although these makeups tend to be slightly more expensive, with 41% of all Americans being diagnosed with cancer, I am happy to be on the safe side of cosmetics.
