Canned food IS a great thing and can literally be a lifesaver because it’s a great way of preserving food that has a long shelf life.
The problem with canned food is that it has never been about the food itself. It comes down to the can — actually, the lining of the can. Unfortunately, this problem is not new, and has been written about and discussed endlessly because the liners of cans may contain harmful chemicals such as Bisphenol A, and BPA. The issue is that, after all the information available about the danger of these chemicals has come to light, very little has changed.
New research by The Ecology Center’s HealthyStuff.org lab shows that BPA is contained in the majority of cans, actually as many as 2/3 sold in grocery stores today. BPA is a well known endocrine-disrupting chemical linked to hormonal dysfunction, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Type 2 Diabetes, ADD, infertility, asthma and obesity. The fact is that most people are being exposed daily to BPA, and it’s a problem that really needs to be addressed. BPA needs to be taken out of all food products.
